Twenty-two (22) U.S. military service members and veterans die by suicide every day, on average, due to factors like PTSD, anxiety, and depression. The #22for22 Pushups Challenge raises awareness of this issue, and influences communities to get more involved.

To join the #22for22 Pushups Challenge, record yourself doing 22 push-ups for 22 days, and then share that video on social media, like Instagram, adding the hashtag #22for22 and nominating/tagging a new person to complete the challenge each day you post. Your Instagram posts will appear below, if your account is not set to ‘private.’

(Some content featured here may not be related to this challenge, since some people may use the “#22for22” hashtag for unrelated social media posts.)

Day 1,353: The symbolism behind this video is about more than just pushups - the 22 Pushup Challenge originated as a way to spread awareness that an average of 22 combat veterans take their own lives each day.
•
A 2019 statistic from the Department of Veteran Affairs has shown that the number has decreased to 17 a day, but that is still too many!
•
If you need resources, you can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Or text HELLO to 741-741 for the Crisis Text Line.
•
If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, reach out and ask for help. It could save a life!
•
If you’d like to participate in the 22 Pushup Challenge, I encourage you to do so! Just record a video and post it on social media (Instagram, Facebook... wherever).
•
It doesn’t have to be “pretty” because it’s “not about the pushups” it’s about the awareness! Please tag me so I can support you with likes and comments (and a virtual pat on the back).

Day 20 of 22. 22 pushups for 22 days to raise awareness for suicide prevention. 22 is the average number of veterans that commit suicide daily in the US. This is a way to open communication about mental health.

I nominate thesunlitwitch for the challenge. All good if you don’t want to do it.

Suicide is one of those difficult subjects to talk about to people. Weight loss is another difficult topic to talk about. Eating disorders, drug abuse, physical or mental abuse from a loved one, coming out LGBTQ to your family and friends, even just confronting a friend or coworker about their behavior. In many cases, those difficult conversations are worth having. Whether you get peace of mind, help with a personal issue, clarity, understanding, mutual agreement, compromise, or in other cases maybe you find a different path that brings you greater happiness. Have the difficult conversations. If it pains you inside, talk to someone about it. We are all here to help each other.

Day 1,352: 100,000... ONE-HUNDRED THOUSAND people follow me on TikTok as of today. I never thought I would have that many followers anywhere, let alone one so geared towards Gen Z! I gained 70,000 followers in TWO MONTHS (starting July 19 when one video gained 5.3M views!). Now to start making money on TikTok as a side hustle. 😁

Day 19 of 22. 22 pushups for 22 days to raise awareness for suicide prevention. 22 is the average number of veterans that commit suicide daily in the US. This is a way to open a talk about mental health.

I nominate k4ptain for the challenge. Do it if you want to do it. Or just come play disc golf with me soon.

I just read a Harvard Science Review article about obsession and PTSD. Normally, the body responds to danger with the “fight or flight” method. It’s an evolutionary trait that kept us mostly safe from outside dangers. Research suggests that extreme situations, like war time or a car crash, can alter a victim’s mental state by way of an overactive amygdala response. The amygdala is considered the emotional control center of the brain. The general fight or flight response is a balance of the amygdala connecting with the frontal cortex and the hippocampus, which is responsible for memory formation. Therefore, how we deal with fear is directly correlated with our past memories and experiences. Just something to think about. Fears and obsessions come from distinct memories in our past, whether we realize it or not.
